He is Ex-Member, Planning Commission of India. and He was Ex-Vice Chancellor, Sardar Patel University, Ahmedabad. Former Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is renowned Educationist and Economist.

Unfortunately in our country, the rural poor of the society were deprived of education for decades and only the elite and financially advantaged section of the society were privileged to pursue education that too at urban centres. Padmashri Vitthalrao Vikhe Patil the father of rst Farmer's co-operative Sugar Factory and the Asia's first co-operative sugar factory the only one who took the lead in establishing the Pravara Rural Education Society way back in 1964 with a noble cause of providing quality educational facilities to the rural poor as a philanthropic service at an affordable basis.
